Those thoughtless fools at Macy's Corporation took sledge hammers to the soul & inspiration of Meier & Frank Co. Included on their hit list was this beautiful dining room, Mr. Meiers famous office, the stunning wood work throughout the stores and some historic showcases that were thrown into garbage trucks. Today the store is dead to me. It is just another department store with chinese merchandise stacked everywhere.
I have to agree, just go in to any Macy's across the country (e.g. those that were bought by Macy's and converted) --- they all look alike. It's sad that the flagship M & F didn't keep some of it's original look. At least Macy's did retain most of the original Marshall Fields flagship store on State St in Chicago. Probably the only one. What we need in Oregon is a few Dillard's to give Macy's competition. They have none.

I will never go in that building again. Why ruin great memories?
