my parents had a couple of these over the years, i remember they called it "the hi fi" but how many old records they ruined by stacking them to play one after another, i still remember the scratching sound as the next one dropped onto the spinning turntable!

Where was something like that made -- in the USA? And is that real wood, or press board with a faux wood covering?

If you watch MAD MEN, Don Draper plays the song "Tomorrow Never Knows" from the Beatles album Revolver on a similar record player. and Yes, they were made in the USA out of real wood. the use of that Beatles song cost Matt Weiner 250,000 dollars, but it was a very effective segment on an excellent series, and a great demo of the players influence on 60's family life
