Ali's brother reports he is close to his final round. I met Ali in NewYork in the 70's. Fifteen years ago he walked into Golds Gym in Northwest Portland at 6:30 in the morning. He stood in the entry and elevated himself off the ground. I have a witness that also saw this, Bob Briede who currently owns Xtreme Fitness in Beaverton. I got a glimpse of Ali again being helped through the shops in the Wynn Hotel in Vegas. Three stages of life.

He looks dead in that picture with the LA Times story.
I suppose the term near death is open to interpretation. At 71 he's nearer to death than most 21 year olds.
