Amazing. It wasn't just Kennedy's dream, it was the whole United State's. The world marveled, was in awe.
How far we have fallen, My God.

There are those things you remember perfectly.The Columbus Day Storm, Kennedy's assassination, the Mt. St. Helens eruption and the first moon landing.
I was at my girlfriend's grandparents' home in Sellwood. She was more excited about the whole thing than I was. But on that Sunday afternoon, her Aunt Prudence had come to visit and she was having major cramps. She passed out on her grandparents' bed and as hard as we tried to wake her, she slept through the whole thing.
She had roused by the time Neil Armstrong made one giant step, so there is that.
