I recall when the view master factory was located way out in the country South of Beaverton, where a small sign was posted along the two lane road that said, "Watch Progress progress." I have often wondered who thought of that sign. Google doesn't help.

I never knew they came from Portland? loved seeing the clear color photos growing up!

Allen...

The area where Sawyer's Viewmaster was, was called Progress. Back in the day, Sawyer's was in the middle of farm country. There was a feed store on the corner of Hall and Scholl's Ferry. We used to drive out Hall to catch 99W at Tigard to head south. There was no I-5 back then.

Now, of course, the area is lousy with shopping centers and houses. Sawyer's had a huge, elevated water tank with the company name and logo on it. Where that water tank stood is now an office building.

our family had the original clamshell model with dozens of discs my favorite being the Columbia River Highway before I84, the Southwest national parks soon to be decimated by the felonious occupant of the WH.
The clamshell was preceded in our family by a 3D stereoscopic viewer with which i dont remember any colored views, but world wide photos of many different countries, African safaris, and the various tribes in Africa which were quite titillating to a kid going through puberty! i think they had the original pictures of the discovery of King Tuts tomb.
