The home owned by famous writer Ray Bradbury was torn down in a Los Angeles neighborhood ( Cheviot Hills) ... This was also the home Bradbury wrote, "Something Wicked This Way Comes"
Sci Fi fans are upset over the demolition.
The story of Fred Meyer by Oregon writer, Fred Leeson. Growing up here in Portland gives me a super connection to this book about a difficult but brilliant man that was a century before his time with retailing. I can't recommend this book high enough. Call a Fred Meyer store to see if it's in stock, more have been shipped. Powell's and Annie Blooms also have the book. I was glued to this biography. My fav book of 2014.
An Olympic distance runner and World War II veteran who survived 47 days on a raft in the Pacific after his bomber crashed, then endured two years in Japanese prison camps under the worst conditions has died. His story was told in "Unbroken" which is a masterpiece of a non fiction book. The film produced by Angelina Jolie will be released in December. The book goes down as one of my all time favorite reads. Please do not miss this one.
I'm currently reading a terrific book. It all takes place during 1927 which was a massive year for events. A big portion is dedicated to Lindbergh's wondrous flight. The author describes how a crush of fans stormed his plane in Paris on touchdown. If you love history, get "One Summer" by Bill Bryson. It is terrific.
