For years I've been looking for a photo of Bill's Gold Coin. Today my advance copy of Phil Stanford's latest book arrived in the mail and there it is on page 12! This was a hot spot and big mobster hangout in Stumptown. Looking forward to starting this book tonight.
Bill was Portland's best news reporter when stations had the smarts to air local news from the street. Bill started in Portland at KGW then moved on to Jim Howe's news team at KEX and Pamplin's KPAM. Bill keeps busy doing voice work for commercials and audio books. His selection for book of the year is by Portland's very own Pulitzer winner.
Corey Brunish lives in our town while creating Tony award winning Broadway plays like, "Beautiful" the Carole King musical. Corey's favorite book of the year is "Hamilton" which started the whole craze and became a gigantic Broadway smash hit. Pictured with him at the Tony's is Corey's beautiful wife Jessica Rose. Thanks to Brunish we have a beautiful performing arts theater dedicated to his mother.
Bob Miller retired from doing mornings at KEX and KPAM (still keeps the pipes in order to fill in now and then) and donates his time conducting the Astoria Riverfront Trolley and gets rave reviews doing it, loved the book "Astoria" which features the life of John Jacob Astor & his famous expedition. I have this one on my night stand. This is Bob's favorite book for 2016.
99.5 The Wolf morning team, Mike and Amy have selected their favorite books of the year. Mike was nuts over the Paul Simon bio written by Portland author Peter Ames Carlin. Rolling Stone rates this book #2 of the year. Amy Faust loved "The Girls" by Emma Cline, a fictional account of Girls following danger during The Manson years. Another highly rated book.
This week I will be featuring local celebs with their fav book picks for 2016. The best anchor to work in this town is Kathy Smith. Her choice is Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel. It must be a great one, it's won many awards. Kathy is pictured with her husband Herb Sharp.
