Buildings and Burgers Play Off – judges needed!

I’m at 47 burgers now – do I really need to keep going? Actually, I might as well make it an even 50. With meatless-for-me Lent beginning on Feb. 22, I need to bring this to a close and begin the Lenten best veggie burger search. Please let me hear from you if:

1. There’s a burger out there worth the calories that I absolutely have to have
2. There’s a burger location (building, atmosphere or structure) that’s really unique and worth experiencing (that also has a great burger)
3. You’d like to be a judge and participate in the “DJC Sweet 16 Peoples’ Choice Play-off”

MY VISIT TO NORTH PORTLAND

I can see how North Portland is developing into the hottest spot in town. Today I took my wife to an appointment in the neighborhood and took a walk exploring terrific storefronts, restaurants, carts and a total renewal of what it use to look like. I can see how The Pearl is getting major attention shifted to the North end. The photo below is the  historic sign that hangs over a great coffee shop called "The Fresh Pot" located at 4001 N. Mississippi Ave. Friendly kids running this old drug store and a packed house. My visit to this area blew me away!

Ace Car Reconditioning was the best find of the year for me. I scraped up my front bumper due to stupidity and started shopping around the cost to repair it. What an eye opener that experience was. I was quoted from $1100 to $2000. I just couldn't bring myself to spending that much money on a bumper that had scratches all over it. I was recommended to call ACE in Tualatin. Not only was their service beyond my expectations, they did a wonderful, flawless job on my car and less than half the lowest estimate. They also did a spectacular detail job inside and out. Trust me on this one, these guys are FAN-tastic. They have a customer for life.

ANSWER THE DAMN PHONE!

Customer service on the phone is almost non existent in this country. It is rare when you get a live, breathing human to just answer the phone. The automation systems are the worst. I start by continually clicking the O button to see if a human will pick up. Usually I get some schmuck in India that I can't understand. The topper is when I finally get a human and they reply to my question, "Have you been to our website yet?"

For a big company, Nordstrom's have great people answering the phone when you call. 5 stars for them.

 

LADIES! YOU WILL LOVE THIS SHOP IN CANNON BEACH

 
You would think your shopping in a fashion forward ladies clothing shop on Melrose in Los Angeles or Soho in New York. Located right in the heart of downtown Cannon Beach is Purple Moon, owned by Abbas Atwi who has been in the fashion biz all his life. The shop is alive with a strong energy that vibrates with "BUY ME". Abbas and his staff make the shopping experience fun with great music piping through the store, wine and other beverages of choice. The selection is unique and different. Purple Moon is reasonable in price and lots of fun to shop there.

STARBUCKS FAILS

Imagine this... A young man, maybe 16 stands in line and when he gets up to the counter he asks for a sip of water to take a pill. The devil pig acting as a Starbucks employee tells him that he will have to pay for a sip of water. The kid says "Really, I just need this much of water" ... She sent him walking. For my good deed of the day I bought the kid a bottle of water and gave it to the devil good. My next mission is calling Starbucks corporate and making their day too.
