Cesar Chavez was a wonderful guy, a man that did not wish to be a celebrity type, but now the drums are beating again to change a major historic street from BROADWAY to CESAR CHAVEZ BLVD. Marta Guembes is behind this insanity, co-chair of their committee. Here's where it gets tough honey, when you own a business like let's say "BROADWAY FURNITURE" that has been there for years and the family that owns the independent shop has spent millions in advertising branding that name, you would take a moment and think of the innocent by-standers in this deal. I use them as a prime example, but take any business struggling right now to make payroll & rent, they have to change ALL their branding.
Business cards, stationery, receipts, on line imaging, advertising, and it goes on & on. PLUS .....THE MAJOR MAJORITY OF PEOPLE DO NOT WANT THIS. To make your stomach sicker, the city that works is spending $30,000 overseeing this stupid effort that won't take a rest. Chavez was a huge force in the labor rights effort, good for him, but he would tell these neighborhood organizers & activists to cool it.
That was his way.
another horrible waste of tax payer bucks. Why not Wayne Morris Ave if they are going to that expense. Whats Chavez's connection to Portland anyway.
