When this photo was shot in 1964, radio was at it's all time best & it was FUN FUN FUN! These are the Kisn Goodguys in front of the famous window of the world-Kisn studios at 10 NW 10th Ave...Corner of 10th & Burnside. Today the building faces Powells Book Store. The Beatles had invaded America as you can tell by the photo! Wearing their Fab 4 Beatle wigs are (from the top) The Real Don Steele, Frank Benny, Tiger Tom Murphy, Addie Bobkins and his dog "Feather". I'm sure when this photo was clicked the Mighty 91derful radio was broadcasting "I want to hold your hand" or "She loves you" .....The kids could not get enough of this new sound, and that important shift in music gave the DJ's the power to really have fun on the air. The station was live 24 hours a day, the jocks had freedom to be themselves and entertain the audience. All the planets were in line during the 60's, radio had management that allowed the program directors to create cool promotions, contests, features and benefits. Today radio slugs along with corporations running the show who have diluted the product to it's lowest denominator. Ronald Reagan's administration made the holy grail of errors allowing these Wall St thugs and gangsters to buy a cluster of stations in every major market. When this photo was taken, a radio operator owned one & if they were really lucky maybe a FM along with the AM. They could focus on their product and deliver a sound that made people listen! Really study this picture, we will never see this energy again. Never.
