10 QUESTIONS FOR THE BIG B.A (BOB ANCHETA)

Bob was just a kid starting out at KVAN Radio in Vancouver, which became a very cool AM station, when you could clearly get the signal. I think that was part of the mystique of KVAN, along with a heavy album rock format that was very unique for the time. Bob left KVAN in 1973 and went to work for KQIV FM. The Big B.A was also a familiar face at the Paramount Theater working the concerts that rolled through town. Bob played classic rock on KGON for many years and then went on to voice tracking for many stations around the country. You can hear Bob on his top rated blues show on KINK (Sunday evenings) where it is the last show of it's kind where a DJ actually plans his own show and takes requests. Here are the 10 questions I presented to the Big B.A.

#1: HOW DID YOU GET YOUR START IN RADIO?

I would drive by the famous Kisn corner on 10th & Burnside with my parents, and at the stop light I was truly amazed at watching the Kisn Goodguys in the window, and hearing their voices come out of my parents car radio at the same time! I knew that I had to do that. I started on a one watt pirate radio station in my upstairs bedroom of our house that reached five blocks on a good day. My parents hated the request line ringing on their home phone line at 3am.
