Mayor George Baker survived a huge recall election in 1932. He was accused of carousing with underworld mob figures. Commissioner John Mann was thrown out of office, but Baker kept his Mayor seat. Earl Riley was also involved in this fiasco, and later elected Mayor of Stumptown. He was defeated by Strumptowns first female Mayor Dorothy Lee McCullough in 1948. I'm working on a major blog concerning McCullough. Oh if only the walls could talk in City Hall, but forget the Men's Room!!!!!
Dorothy McCullough Lee.
