Thanks to Larry McCallister for e-mailing me this great shot of the I-205 Bridge getting built. Larry was taking a flight instruction class in January 1981 and grabbed his Nikon to snap this historic picture.

If you notice that small patch of open ground in the upper right on the horizon that's Evergreen airfield on Mill Plain. His training flight may well have originated from there. Wally Olson ran the field from 1946 to 1996. He knew the 205 bridge would eventually be the death knell of the airport; the bridge brought rapid development to east Vancouver. Wally didn't live to see the field close. He passed away in 1997. The airport soldiered on for a few more years before encroachment forced its closure. The strut in the photo is probably the strut of one of Wally's Cessna 150's or maybe his 172, N5930R.
No it wasn't one of Wally's planes I was taking lessons at the place next door to Wally
I was flying a Cessna-150 and according to my log book I was in 2844Victor, I was doing touch & go's at PDX when I took that picture

I thought Evergreen was further to the east on Mill Plain. That in the picture looks too close to I-205, like about where Fred Meyer is.

You may be right, but from the air Evergreen appeared very close to the I-205. Either way, I'll bet that is one of Wally's planes.
