THE SHARK HAS APPEARED IN GEARHART
Anger is brewing on Gearhart's most exclusive avenue. The old money on the famous strip is livid over the new kid on the block building out his McMansion & blocking the big players views. More at 11.....Outlet shopping is not the same anymore due to Saks & Nordstom buying less inventory for their regular stores. This has made the selection dim for the outlet divisions. The new Sak's Off 5th at Bridgeport is a big let down.
A FRACTIOUS FRIDAY MELANGE
Phone books are a pain in my ass. They just keep arriving at my doorstep and immediately get tossed in the recycle bin. How many versions do they make of this outdated source of information? TOO MANY......Ted Wheeler is headed for bigger things. This is one sharp elected official and on the national scene New Jersey Governor Chris Christie will soon be a household name.
ALL THAT JAZZ & OTHER STUFF
Champion of lower taxes, Don McIntire turned this blogger on to a new jazz diva named Cat Edmonson, Google her up! Is Angelina Jolie the most irritating celebrity on the planet? I think so....Hospital dramas on TV give me the creeps....On the local scene master guitarist Eddie Martinez who has played with Jagger, Winwood and a long list of other heavyweights appears tonight at the Blue Monk on SE Belmont. Eddie's brother is the Town & Country auto baron.
PARK THIS
The Schlesinger family who owns the Star Parks in Stumptown is the only local company competing for the City of Portland Smart Park Management bid. I encourage everyone who is a backer of anything local to make a phone call to Sam the Shams office and put in a good word for one of the nicest families in town. 503-823-1384
TIME TO CATCH A BITE
The best kept secret is in the Raleigh Hills Fred Meyer shopping center. Make a visit to "Nguyen" and order the B-1 on the menu. You will be back again & again.
MORE STUFF
My pal "Lucky' that has worked in Vegas has great stories like when actor Ben Affleck was playing blackjack at The Hard Rock and won $50,000 bucks. When he was finished, Ben shoved the money to the dealer and simply said "This is for you"
POWELL'S WILL BE THE LAST ONE STANDING
Sad to see Borders closing on Sw 3rd Ave. It is a big footprint so who will fill that space? Powell's is having a great year in a down economy. They are the best at what they do.
COULD IT BE REALLY TRUE?
Brian Ford of "Henry Ford's Restaurant" fame is working directly with Steve Yaw on bringing back the greatest eatery that ever served Stumptown, Yaw's Top Notch! If any Stump readers have special memories of the old haunt, shoot Brian your dedications at [email protected] ....This could be the greatest comeback in Stump history.
This column is dedicated to the great Doug Baker who appeared in The Oregon Journal for many years and is missed.
Doug Baker was always a pleasure to read.

Great.

Sorry, Dave, but on-line phone directories suck. They don't give me what I need to know.
Also, Doug Baker was a schmuck. I speak based on the way he treated some of my friends.

Sorry Don, but if you still like the Yellow Pages, you are a dinosaur first class. The only people who use phone books are those who can't figure out computers. Otherwise, it's Google all the way.
The truly stupid ones are the merchants who aren't online and even for them they can get listed in things like Google Places. It's much easier to type something like "Barbers Tigard Oregon" into Google than to go scanning through the Yellow Pages.

Dave, now you need somebody to create a cartoon header for this weekly creation.
