THE LORD OF NORTHWEST 23RD
Friends call him "Dickie Singer", and they regard him as the mavin who re-created Northwest 23rd Ave from a slum to the hottest strip in Stumptown. Singer could of done it the easy way by leasing to McDonalds and Taco Bell, but Singer had a vision of independent trendy shops and cool restaurants. Mission Accomplished! On the other side of the coin we have Terry Currier, owner of Music Millennium who was first to take the plunge by opening a record store in the neighborhood. Terry built a store the area and the city adored with a great vibe and over one hundred (free) live shows a year. When retail took a hit and the downloading craze went off the charts, Terry needed some help from Singer. The counter offers were lousy placements that did not work for Currier. The end of the story is we lost a Northwest 23rd icon . If Singer would of reduced the rent and made it work he would of stuck $360,000 smacks in the bank. The store has been dark since 2007. Singers Grandfather was legendary jeweler Harry Zell who gave Dickie his first building at age three (building is on 23rd Ave)......and then we have Currier who does it all for the love of music. I would bet that Harry Zell would of told Dickie to make it work and give the kid a haircut! In this months Oregon Business Magazine, Singer was quoted "We are very specific about who we bring in. I approach most of these people. And until we get somebody (to fill the Music Millennium corner) we'd rather be empty" YEAH RIGHT!
SHOW ME THE MONEY
Nike Corporation gave Dr. John $22,500 and Dudley received $15,000 for the election efforts. Phil Knight wrote a personal check to Dudley for $200,000 smacks. I wonder who Phil is voting for?

Googles international operations are located in Dublin. The office houses 2,000 employees, and they hauled in a whopping 12.5 billion in sales. Most of the profits, however, went to the tax haven of Bermuda where there's no corporate income tax at all. These Google boys are no dummies.
STUFF
Typhoon opened in West Linn. They have been allegedly under fire for slave labor charges. Here's a good one to make you stay away, when they first opened downtown a regular customer busted a glass by accident. When the bill arrived they socked it to them good. The customer complained and the owner would not budge. The customer has never been back and has told the story a thousand times.....Dudley by three points....Why did the motion picture Nowhere Boy leave the theaters after a week? It was the rave at Sundance. I can't wait to see the film "Inside Job" opening today at the Fox. We will see the faces of all the crooks who almost took this country down....Phil Stanford's book is on the stands at Powell's and selling fast! The Peyton-Allan Files is just plain fascinating......The Broadway Cigar Co gets to light up again next week after the Smoke Police gave them a spanking for nothing. I mean NOTHING! This town better get their priorities straight soon.
