I remember watching this show when I was home in the summers. Mom would watch it followed by "As the World Turns", when it was a half hour show. KOIN Kitchen I do think sparked my interest at a young age to learn to cook and bake. This was what we know today as the "Food Network". I remember later in the years Lois Devore took over KOIN Kitchen, then Hors Meger! Boy, I guess I'm old!! LOL!

I remember the show as well Dale. It never sparked an interest in cooking for me, it just increased my appetite!

"Koin Kitchen" debuted on KOIN 11:00 to 11:45am on January 7, 1954.

I can remember thinking as a kid..."I wonder why Betty Davis looks different than she does in the movies. I also wondered..."Why is she doing a cooking show? Does she need the money?" Then, I realized it wasn't the same person, but wasn't it funny that they both had the same name and that they were both in show business!

Yes, I too remember it being a 15 minute program. It amazed me...she could cook an entire meal in less than fifteen minutes but it took my mother at least an hour to ruin something! (Of course, I wasn't aware, at the time, that Miss Davis had her "food steps" already pre-cooked in their various stages of preparation ready and waiting, just off-stage, just out of camera sight.) I tried to get my mom to watch, (maybe to learn how to cook something WITHOUT burning it?), but she said she didn't have the time, and besides, "that woman never cooked anything that people REALLY ate. It was just for "show" and not for real people living real lives!"
"What? You don't have a measly fifteen minutes, but you have the time to talk to the next door neighbor for over an hour about the same thing you talked to her about yesterday, and on the phone, no less?" Oy!

Thanks for the great memory!

"Now, the first step is to THAW the turkey out first, BEFORE stuffing it and placing it in the oven to cook! And, of course, don't forget to pre-set your oven!"

Boy, does this take me back ! I remember both Betty and Lois (and Horst) but the ladies were the best. One time, Lois was making home made dill pickles. She had sterilized the jars with boiling water and then poured the pickles and brine (cold from the fridge) into the jars - they cracked, of course, and there was a BIG mess - and it was live TV ! I was probably about 8 or 9 years old so this was early 60's........and I knew about making pickles because my mom made them every summer. These shows were so much better than Food Network and whatever else is on today. I pay for cable to get TV reception but I watch rarely.
