BEST QUOTE: By a major stock investor who did not want to be named "Avoid stocks whose names begin with BIO or end in -ICS or IX"
BEST BOOK: Hands down "Unbroken" by one of the greatest authors ever, Laura Hillenbrand. This should be required reading for all! Laura wrote "Seabiscuit" and her latest is even better!
BOOK TO READ IN 2011: Scott Spencer's "Man in the Woods.
BEST LOCAL BOOK: The Peyton Allen Files by Phil Stanford
BEST LOCAL CHARITY: The Sunshine Pantry in Beaverton. The love from Sharon Straus and her crew could not get any bigger. www.sunshinepantry.org
BEST MOVIE: The Fighter
BEST NEW RESTAURANT: "Scratch" in downtown Lake Oswego. Too good for words.
BEST RESTAURANT: Oba in the Pearl. Scott Neuman is Stumptowns veteran and he makes magic happen in that kitchen on 12th & Hoyt.
BEST BURGER: It is a tie between The Skyline Burger & Giant Burger in Lake Grove
TV SERIES: Boardwalk Empire on HBO. It is FAN-tastic.
TV NEWS ANCHOR: Portland has a great stable of anchors, The 10:00 news with Shauna Parsons & Wayne Garcia have proved that...but a new standout that will make it to the network status is Kacey Montoya on KOIN. While I'm at it, there is no way I'm leaving out the pros at 8 featuring Joe Donlon and Tracy Barry. If they ever make a mistake, the viewer sure has no clue they are doing it!
BEST COFFEE SHOP: Blue Moon in Lake Grove. Why does their Stumptown brew taste better? Great independent coffee shop. www.bluemoonlo.com and tied for first is Pazzo's Coffee shop at 621 SW Washington St. (my favorite card shop is right next door)
BEST CASUAL LUNCH: "Nguyen" on Beaverton Hillsdale Highway in the Fred Meyer shopping center. Ask for The Stumptown Bowl.
BEST OF THE OREGONIAN: Steve Duin and Tom Hallman Jr. This town is very lucky to have these two stars of the printed word. Also can't leave out Jack Ohman and his brilliant cartoon drawings.
BEST BLOG: www.bojack.org
BEST FUN WEB SITE TO HIT EVERY SUNDAY: www.postsecret.com
BIGGEST LOCAL NEWS STORY: Many will say the disappearance of Kyron Horman, but the planned bombing of Pioneer Square takes first position. If the FBI was not brilliant in their plan, this would of been the countries biggest news story.
BEST CD I PURCHASED AT MUSIC MILLENNIUM: Sinatra live at the Sands with Count Basie. (Because I wore my first one out)
BEST LOCAL GROCER: New Seasons
BEST CARD SHOP: Balloons on Broadway (located at 617 SW Washington) You won't find cards like these at Hallmark!
BEST OF THE COAST: Stephanie Inn at Cannon Beach. The dining room is so wonderful and the lodging is 5 stars. Really worth it! www.stephanieinn.com
BEST WOMEN'S APPAREL SHOP: "Oxalis" 1824 NW 24th Ave. 503-206-8568
BEST MENS SHIRT: Treat yourself to a David Donahue dress shirt. Nordstroms has the exclusive in Stumptown. The best of best!
BEST RETRO TV SHOW ON CABLE: Cheyenne on the western encore channel. I'm hooked on old school B&W westerns. Clint Walker as Cheyenne Bodie was great. Encore also airs The Virginian, Gunsmoke, Wagon Train and other one hour tele-plays. On my cable box it is channel 524
BEST OUTDOOR STORE: Without a question U.S. Outdoor Store on Broadway downtown. It is all about the service and keeping it local.
BEST OF THE HOLY SMOKE: Shilo Cigar Bar on Canyon - Broadway Cigar and best stick of the year is anything Garcia makes in the "My Father" collection.
WISHING YOU THE BEST IN 2011

Will 2011 be the year that In-N-Out takes the Best Burger Award in Portland? We can only hope!

Sorry to burst your bubble Dave on the David Donahue dress shirt "exclusive". I actually carry their woven sport shirts and can special order anything they make, including the dress shirts. I would catagorize them as the "best" value at $125.00, but for $165.00 you can have a shirt custom made using very fine Egyption cotton, made here in the good old USA.

I'll agree with you on the Westerns Channel. That is usually where I leave my FIOS/Dish/ whatever I am using for the last many years. Love those old westerns. Ever since I was a kid. Just got the Cheyenne collection from Amazon a few weeks ago. Currently going through a Hopalong Cassidy collection.
