Cash strapped Borders Books will delay payments again to suppliers and landlords. Bankruptcy is just around the corner and this could be doomsday for the company. This is month number two with no cash flow. Expect a wave of stores going dark or going under completely.

AMERICAN TAXPAYERS ARE SUCH SUCKERS

Bank of America Corp. gave Chief Executive Officer Brian T. Moynihan a $9.05 million bonus for his first year as leader of the largest U.S. lender by assets, less than the company awarded to its investment banking head.

Moynihan, 51, received the bonus in restricted stock, the Charlotte, North-Carolina based bank said today in a regulatory filing. Thomas K. Montag, who leads global banking and markets, got $14.3 million in restricted stock and $900,000 in cash awards.

Bank of America earned $6.3 billion from Montag’s division last year while the parent company was unprofitable as Moynihan took $12.4 billion in impairments at operations purchased by his predecessor, Kenneth D. Lewis. The bank’s shares “did underperform” in 2010, when they dropped 11 percent amid losses tied to repurchasing faulty mortgages from investors including Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, Moynihan told analysts Jan. 21.

Awards for executives including Moynihan were based upon “recognition of 2010 as a unique and critical transition year,” the company said in the filing.

SCREEN STAR JACK BUETEL HAD MAJOR TIES TO PORTLAND

 
 
In 1962 Doug Baker (Oregon Journal) ran a story in his column about screen star Jack Buetel marrying a Portland socialite, Joanne Crawford. Doug reported that the couple took off after the wedding to Tahiti. Buetel appeared in many motion pictures and fell in love with Portland. Buetel died in 1989 at age 72 and is buried in Portland Memorial Park.

THE ORIGINAL NBC PEACOCK IN LIVING COLOR

 

For many of us Boomers this was the first time we viewed color TV. It was most likely in Meier & Franks windows on Morrison because most homes had black & white sets. The first time I saw the color peacock in our home was in the early sixties. We played with the TV ears to get good reception because this was the first time NBC would broadcast Bonanza in living color!!! It was very exciting. 

Comcast was going to dump the NBC peacock logo until News anchor Brian Williams had a fit over it. It stays.
