PRESIDENT EISENHOWER AND HIS DEALINGS WITH NIXON

This new book by Jim Newton is a real eye opener. There was no love between Nixon & Eisenhower. The book begins with Ike's election, his health problems in the White House and what our nation was like in the heart of post war times. Newton spends quite a bit of time on Nixon getting dumped from the re-election ticket. Eisenhower's staff thought Nixon was too young and carried baggage wherever he went. Eisenhower kept Tricky Dick hanging for almost a year to get the word that The President would keep him on the ticket. Eisenhower had a very interesting eight years in office. Everyone on Eisenhower's cabinet wanted Nixon dumped from the ticket. Eisenhower had a 65% approval rating going into the election, but there were fears if The President's health would ride out four more years.
