Do you remember the Ventures and Babbitt the drummer who played "Walk Don't Run"?Do any of you remember the USAF Four Star General George Babbitt from Tacoma, WA? Anyone who thought the military is all spit and polish and discipline?Pretty interesting. General Babbitt was a drummer at one time for the Ventures. This is cool. Watch it. You will love it if you like rock n' roll. Some of you probably don't remember the Ventures. Those that do, enjoy the clip. It should bring a smile to your face.
Thanks so much for the walk down memory lane. It was certainly appreciated.

Hey George:
Remember Chanute AFB,same Maintenance Officers class? Alconbury? RF4Cs, Col. Myers, Project Pacer Wave? General Poe? General George Rhodes, Col Coleman. When we were assigned to McChord AFB, Louise' parents, Mr. & Mrs. Wakeman, took Doris an I and our 3 sons in(you had just left for RAF Alconbury). We spent a lot of time with them at Vashon digging for Gooey Ducs. Doris and I and 2 sons spent a week with you and Louise at your house in Alconbury. It's been a long time. I've been retired from USAF for 35 years. I do remember you as a good friend, but wasn't aware of your drumming skills. Guess Who!

I saw the Ventures at the NCO club at Tainan AFB in Taiwan back in 1965. I think they were there on a USO Tour. What a treat it was for me and a fond memory. Kent Mapp, USAF Retired.

I played the B-3 organ on the "Walk Don't run 65" album. Mel Taylor and I had worked together in another band and he recommended me for the album. Al Harris

Phenomenal video. I grew up with the Ventures and still remember many of the LPs I had. They had the hottest chicks on the covers of their albums.

What a trip!! "Walk Don't Run" i probably my favorite high school-era rock instrumental of all time and the Ventures -- well I couldn't get enough of them. Even now, I get misty hearing
that incredible sound. Makes me want to turn up my hearing aids!

Bob Karm mentioned that he was in Naha on Okinawa in the late 60s and saw the Ventures. It was probably the same tour that I sat next to the stage at Kadena AB on Okinawa when I sort of met the Ventures. We drank heavily and I had my seat with my back against the stage. The place was full and we had to buy dinner tickets to see the show and be there 2 hours ahead. I was trying to get up when I fell over backward on the stage. I was told the next morning that I was introduced as the Newest Member of the Ventures.

In grade 7 we won a talent show. I played the short version on guitar, as there were only 2 strings. We didn't get the prize because we had been acting up in class (stink bombs with pens).
And I managed to play that guitar version to "Henry the Eighth I Am"
We had an astute drummer who made it all work!
Tambourines and maracas helped. I felt bad about the audience adoration, "how long have you been playing guitar?" I knew one rift only, from my cousin who was a huge Ventures fan.
Thanks for the rift!
All the Best!
