Council Crest, 1925. At 1,071 feet Council Crest park in SW Portland has a 360 degree view. On a clear day you can see majestic mountains, vast stretches of land and rivers. Memorial Day in 1907 Council Crest Amusement Park opened. There was a Scenic Railway (roller coaster) and the Columbia River Water Log Ride, which encircled the park. After several seasons of failing revenues and the nation heading into a depression the park closed on Labor Day in 1929. Photo taken by Delano Photographics aerial, ca. 1925, courtesy Ken Hawkins.
Yeah, they'll build some monster tower up there on Healy Heights and they'll probably name it Stonehenge.

Wish the 'Tree Assassin' would visit the park and help restore the view.

Is the old KPAM building Still there? When we visited three years ago, it was stuffed with combiners, STLs, etc. for about nine stations.
O'Brien and I tried to get Wally Rossman to move the AM & FM announce booths and the newsroom to the east side of the building for the view of the river. His response: "Well...where would we have our Christmas party?"
I think it was after one of Wally's extended lunches. Probably a Duck Club day.
