Contrary to popular belief, Jane Mansfield WAS NOT decapitated in the auto accident that took her life! Investigators said later that her bloody wig was found at the scene and that the decapitation story was leaked by the press before it could be stopped.

As I recall her autopsy report stated that she was partially scalped and not decapitated.

are you trying to say the media makes stuff up?

Mansfield's head was not severed at the neck, the usual definition of a decapitation. But she did suffer major head injuries and something similar to a scalping. However, it differed from a traditional scalping in that her scalp was totally severed from her head. So, you can say she suffered a partial beheading.

The part about her bloody wig being found at the scene is open to debate. It's seen in controversial pictures of the wrecked Buick Electra she was in but it isn't clear if it was a wig or the severed portion of her head.

Mariska Hargitay, who now stars in SVU was riding in the backseat of the car along with two other Jayne Mansfield-Mickey Hargitay children.

Her name was spelled " Jayne "
