These fresh produce markets used to be scattered all over downtown. I'm thinking there was even one in the 2nd basement of Murphy & Finnegan.
I remember one year watching the Fairytale Parade - the parade we used to have every year the day after Thanksgiving -- standing on a market table covered with oranges. The markets obviously weren't like many farmers markets today with a requirement that goods be locally grown or produced.
Is this the spot that later became FRED MEYER ?
