I. Magnin's clientele slowly died off and the store, a division of Macy's, went bankrupt. While the models in the ad are young, the clothing was for matrons. My mom wore housecoats, my wife never did.
It seems the Portland store (and many others) was closed in 1993 as Macy's tried desperately to keep the division in operation. The chain failed and went out of business a couple of years later.
When it opened in Portland it was considered quite a get. An upscale clothier from San Francisco said Portland had finally made it.
