actually, the corner with the stop sign is where the Starbucks is...there is a multi-purpose building on the Chevron corner, and the Piggly Wiggly is now a New Seasons market.
I remember passing through this intersection numerous times as a child, en-route to Grandma's. The thing that fascinated me was the overhead "stop" signal--it wasn't the usual traffic-light fixture, but instead a hanging pendant (it looks like an upside-down gumdrop) and in the photo is seen hanging from a long pipe just above the "Chevron" sign). The pendant's "gumdrop" flashed red and was simultaneously visible to all four directions of traffic. It reminded me of an upside-down police light.
