Van was a diving instructor in Hawaii when Mike Todd (married at the time to Elizabeth Taylor) discovered him. Williams got a spot on Bourbon Street Beat and Surfside 6. In 1966 Williams signed a deal to star as the masked crusader in The Green Hornet. He was supported by "Kato" played by Bruce Lee. After his acting career ended he became a reserve Sheriff and a fire fighter in Los Angeles. Williams was 82.
