Meier & Frank - c. 1909

This view, from the corner of S.W. 5th and Alder in downtown Portland, shows the new Meier & Frank Building shortly after it was built. Architect A.E. Doyle used glazed terra-cotta on the building, popularizing the treatment and starting a trend downtown. The building housed the city's first escalator, as well as the company's own radio station.

Owner of Music Millennium and music guru, Terry Currier emailed me his pick for the new roller coaster to be built at The Fabulous Oaks. His selection of "Prefontaine" is great. It sounds like a really fast thrilling ride. The new ride will feature a 72 foot vertical climb, a huge loop and 45 mph speed.
