My dad had a great console model radio called a Spartan. It had a circular dial. One end of the needle pointed to the frequency and the other end to a list of call letters. All of the local stations (KGW, KEX, KXL, KOIN, KALE) were there as well as stations like WLS and 500,000-watt WLW.
It also had shortwave and aviation bands that were always interesting to listen to. Some broadcasting on those channels was done in Morse Code.
I hung onto the radio into the 80s and finally donated it to a radio museum.
That 3rd floor was heavenly!
