The Muntz four-track tape player had a short, but spectacular, run from about 1962 to 1970 when the eight-track became more popular. Although Muntz tried to claim the lead in the race with the eight-track, by the late 60s the writing was on the wall.
Muntz Trivia: In addition to the cheap TVs (They were cheap, not inexpensive. Muntz cut costs by using fewer parts than the major TV manufacturers which reduced the quality of the reception) and the four-track, Muntz was also a pioneer in projection TVs and sold a car known as the Muntz Jet in the early 50s.
