The SL-7200, which did not have the built-in timer was available in the US about a year earlier. Models sold only in Japan date back to 1975.

I was working at Sandy's Cameras at Lloyd Center (a big Sony dealer back then) when these arrived and I think I sold the very first one in Portland..... unfortunately the customer's wife brought it back three days later when she discovered what it had cost (well over $1,000, I think) and my commission evaporated!
