Carl "Alfalfa" Switzer was killed January 21, 1959 (age 31, not 33), when he and a friend went to a third man's home to collect $50 Switzer thought he was owned for paying to find the third man's dog. Alphalfa is, by the way, the spelling of the character name sometimes listed in the credits.

At the time, the ME determined that Switzer, who was intoxicated, had been killed accidentally in the altercation after pulling a knife. But the third man's son came forward years later and admitted that his father had killed Switzer, that the knife was only a penknife, and had threatened to kill Switzer's friend. He only stopped threatening the friend when emergency sirens were heard approaching.

Hollywood used to be such fun.

Truly. All of the kids had trouble as adults. And he didnt get any better looking, either. Sad ending.
