Always fun to see photo of Dutch and Lonnie. Enjoy memories of good, old days of Portland Wrestling.

Two great wrestlers, and really wonderful people. RIP, the both of them.

As much a sports fan as my dad was, we never watched wrestling on the tube. But one Friday night, when we'd gone to visit friends, their son whipped on the TV at ten o'clock on Friday night because it was time for Portland Wrestling.

All the kids sat in front of the tube and watched wrestling. I was eight or nine at the time and I couldn't believe how silly it was. These big fat guys, wearing brief swimming trunks, strutting around a boxing ring, grunting and groaning, and generally acting like fools. Acting being the important word.

The guy that played the Lone Ranger was a lot better actor. These guys were just bad. Nope. They were worse than bad, they were horrible. That was all the exposure to wrestling I needed.

A couple of years later, my best friend Bob got the wrestling bug. He got every new wrestling magazine that came out. His dad would bring them home from his grocery store and Bob would tear them apart and tape the pictures to the wall of his bedroom.

San Francisco wrestling was on the TV by that time. The fat guys in swim trunks were a little better actors, but I still thought it was stupid.
