Lucille Ball was the comedic genius of this duo, Desi was merely a bandleader, and wannabe actor till they met. He had a great business mind, but without her....

Jann, Lucy and Desi were a good combo. She had the artistic talent and he had the business sense, although not the training.

Film was considered too expensive back in the day. But Desi decided to produce I love Lucy on film anyway. He also kept the rights to the film which was worth a bundle in syndication. Desi also created the "Filmed before a studio audience" concept that in later years would be considered such an innovation.

Lucy had a sixth sense that told her which shows would play best on TV. With that ability, Desilu was able to produce some of the biggest hits in the early days of TV. Shows that played well in post-network syndication. Some even went on to be major motion pictures.

Joel, I dont deny they were fantastic together, and from all I have read, they loved each other enough that they were capable of being together till the end, but Desi was one who 'wanted his cake, and ability to eat it, too', so to speak.. He told her many times he didnt feel he was adulterous by having sex with others, he was in love with her, and it was merely release. Lucille was of a different mindset. She also made him teach the grandkids Spanish while growing up.. They produced 'Star Trek' when nobody else would...
