I think the producers thought she would give Ginger a run for her money. Carroll O’Conner tried out for Captain!

well, I did have a poster of Raquel on my wall growing up. a fine figure of a woman indeed! not sure if dawn wells had any posters?

Oh she would have definitely given Ginger a run for her money alright. Career wise, probably just as well O'Conner didn't get the part.

With all the crap they gave Barbara Eden as Jeannie over her navel, they wouldve probably been a group of mass coronaries over Welch's. Dawn Wells, the ONLY Mary Ann, though MAYBE Sally Field.. And Carroll O'Connor wouldnt have been right.. he was good, though, in his other roles.

I can't imagine anyone else as the Captain. Or Gilligan, which Jerry Van Dyke auditioned for.

Regardless of a better Ginger or not and regardless of exposed navel or not and regardless of magnificent breasts or more average ones, she was a stunningly beautiful woman.
