Mr. Moon was a late afternoon children's TV program on KOIN Ch 6 that ran from the fall of 1953 thru the fall of 1958

Mr. Moon was on the radio before TV. Ed Leahy, who wore the Moon Mask, did the show on KBKO (later KLIQ) and KWJJ. I produced Eddie's telephone talk show on KLIQ years later. He'd regale us with stories about his days playing Mr. Moon.

My favorite story was when the floor director, who smoked stogies, walked up to Ed, blew a cloud of smoke into the mask and threw Ed his cue. Art Morey, who was the voice of Harry the Heron and many other characters, told the story of the Island of Ikoonakcal, where the characters sometimes traveled. Ikoonakcal is Lackanooki spelled backward.

Good times hearing the stories from all of the old-timers, all long gone now.

I actually have a bit of a memory of seeing Mr. Moon on TV when I would've been about three years old and being scared out of my wits. What a creepy looking character.
