Typical of the various school programs is that of Lincoln High, where students "Hit the Deck" repeatedly this week during drills. Three types of drills are being practiced.
At a flash signal, the students drop from their seats and lie prone under their desks with their heads covered. At a secondary flash signal students leave their rooms and lie on the hallway floors on their sides with their heads covered.
If an advance warning is given the students walk to the basement via prearranged routes and take cover there.
In this photo faculty member Lex Prillaman checks the students.
CBS Television did a documentary on what it would be like to evacuate Portland, it is on YouTube and is quite the hoot to watch. The title is "A Day Called X"
