My dad was one of the original faculty at Vanport in the science department. He stayed through the flood of '48 and went on to teach at Portland State for the next 40 years. I've got an old Royal typewriter with the VEC (Vanport Extension Center) number carved into it that he salvaged and used at home for thirty years before giving it to me. He and the other old heads on the faculty from the Vanport days called themselves the "antideluvians", i.e. from before the flood.
