Regarding that "Fast 4-Hour Color Film Service."

All of Sandy's photo processing was done by Jones Photo Service which was then located in the building where the Goodwill on W. Burnside is now.

Jones was owned by a real oily Portland character named Jack "Jonesie" Sholkoff who had a fleet of bright yellow VW Bugs (with his logo on them) and a bunch of daredevil drivers who would tear around town picking up and dropping off film and prints at Sandys and many other places like M & F, Picture Mill, Fred Meyers, etc, to fulfill that guarantee of "In at 1, at 5 They're Done!"

Many times I would make my final run to the Lloyd Center Sandy's with several big bags full of color prints just before 5 pm and there would be a wall of customers five or six deep at the pickup counter waving their receipts in the air; it looked like the floor of the stock market!

As a Jones driver you paid your own speeding tickets and were told to do your own repairs if you dented his Bugs... He did come up with a turkey for everyone on Thanksgiving and Christmas, but otherwise he was a rather crass, cold, and arrogant human.

He summarily fired me for asking for a raise because my second child on the way. His logic in his own words was: "I didn't knock your wife up, why should I pay you more!"
