The Liberty Theater at 411 SW Broadway had just been completely renovated and upgraded to a first run theater. The renamed New Liberty Theater celebrated the reopening with the Oregon premiere of the MGM film "Quo Vadis" with a benefit showing for the Portland Symphony on February 26, 1952. The premiere had all the Hollywood trimmings with searchlights and KPOJ broadcasting from under the marquee. Deborah Kerr who co-stared in the film with Robert Taylor arrived at 8 pm and was escorted from her car by to husky weightlifters dressed as Praetorian guards, and the usherettes wore Roman Stolas.
