Just drinking soda pop isn't necessarily a cause of type 2 diabetes, however drinking too much pop, to the point of obesity definitely will increase your chances of getting the disease.
According to the Mayo Clinic. "Researchers don't fully understand why some people develop prediabetes and type 2 diabetes and others don't. It's clear that certain factors increase the risk, however." Amongst the risk factors...
Weight
Inactivity
Family history
Race
Age
High blood pressure
Abnormal cholesterol levels
So, as long as your immediate relatives don't have type 2, and you don't gain weight from your consumption of sugary beverages, you're probably okay to drink soda. Should you wonder, I know this because I contracted type 2 about 20 years ago and have studied the disease rather extensively since.

Dunno why everybody doesn't drink diet soda today. Aspartame fixed the funny flavor of artificial sweetener.

Joel,
I'd rather have the Pastrami on Rye any time. Sugary drinks are an evil invention.
I am sure you know that you never have to eat everything that is put in front of you just because it is there.
This sandwich is really four meals divided over a couple of days.... And it is packed with protein balanced by fat and carbs.
Or, you could share it with your honey and still have leftovers.
Cheers,
Daniel (A1C 6.8 and holding)
