Great show. First place I ever saw Sonny and Cher, Mamas and Papas, etc. I think it ran on Channel 12 weekday afternoons?

The funny thing is that it ran on Portland TV months after it premiered in LA.

In the summer of 1965, the family vacationed in Southern California. I watched the Thaxton show live on LA TV, featured guest was the Byrds doing Mr. Tambourine Man, which was a current hit in LA.

Then I saw that same show on KPTV in December and Mr. Tambourine Man was a current hit on KISN. Local radio was so far behind the curve that a hit in Portland was four-and-a-half months behind LA.

Maybe Mr.Stump can dig up an old KISN Top 40 Survey from 65. I seem to remember Mr.Tambourine Man being a summer hit here, and on KJR in the Seattle area where I spent part of every Summer. Loyd Thaxton was must see TV for this kid every day after school.

Watching this show was how a lot of us learned to dance.

There is something about this picture that makes him look like a cross between Herman and Eddie Munster.

The tall forehead and widow’s peak does it.
