The tall structure on the roof was called "The Pylon of Hospitality" the pylon was illuminated in blue with an illuminated gold ball on the top.
The hotel opened in late September 1959.

My mother took my sister and me to lunch there in about 1966 when the Rose Festival was held in Holliday Park.
