Pan Am Dixie Clipper NC 18605 (Boeing 314) carried FDR to the Casablanca Conference with Churchill in North Africa. With the threat from German U Boats the best was to transport FDR to North Africa the flight left Florida on 1/11/43 and skirted the coast of South America on it's 4 day trip with stops for fuel and rest. The clipper had a range of 3,500 miles with a crew of 11 plus 2 stewards. The plane seated 68 or had 38 sleeping location. There are no more surviving aircraft.
