Designed by Oregon's own Pietro Belluschi, the Equitable Building (now the Commonwealth Building) was probably the first glass tower built. The better-known Lever House in Manhattan looks like a scaled-up duplicate and was completed four years later.
Belluschi was born in Italy, did much of his architectural work in Portland, and largely on the fame of the Equitable Building was made dean of the MIT School of Architecture in 1951 where he continued to design many buildings that were constructed in Oregon and elsewhere.
Is that Don Draper on the fifth floor?
