HOLLYWOOD LIGHTS … A SHIP & THE PORTLAND SEAWALL (1930’s)

Portland's "Fleet Week" in the 1930's was in July and from the years 1936 thru 1939 I believe all the Navy ships at the seawall each night would put on a light show with their searchlights criss crossing the nights sky from 9:30 - 10:00 pm. The ship pictured here is a cruiser, but without a hull number it is had to identify the ship and year.

This photo was on page 1 of the Oregon Journal on August 4, 1936, but the ship was not identified, but I believe it is the cruiser USS Houston.
