Is it the song you despise, or the Kingsmen recording? The Raiders version was much better IMHO.
When The Kingsmen recorded Louie, Louie with Jack Ely, not Lynn Easton, singing the lead, there was one mic suspended from the ceiling. Ely had to stand on his toes to be recorded and the other members of the band were in a circle around him. No multi-tracking, one take. Ely had also just had his braces tightened and his mouth hurt. The Kingsmen version was helped immensely by the "dirty lyrics" controversy.
I have always detested this 'song'. Sounds like a bunch of totally wasted drunks trying to believe they can sing. And Ive heard a few covers.
