Last known as the "Roxy" theater it originally opened in 1914 as the "National" theater, and later became the "Strand"--"Rivoli"--"Pix" and in 1941 was named the "Newsreel" showing newsreels.
On February 22, 1952 the Roxy opened showing second run movies until it closed on January 17, 1958. Standard Insurance owned the Roxy and had the 100' x 100' quarter block that housed the theater between Park ave. & SW 9th and SW Stark torn down for a surface parking lot. What is shown in this photo is the theater entrance and lobby at 809 SW Washington which was not torn down but was remodel for rental space.

The films on the marquee of the Roxy were shown from September 9 - 15, 1952
