A FEW FUN FACTS ABOUT THE MOVIE THAT WON FIVE OSCARS

Mel Lambert was a very successful businessman in Salem. He also is in many cowboy hall of fames for his work in rodeo announcing. His son is a very good friend of mine, DJ Roger W. Morgan ( KISN) ….Mel played the harbor master in the film shot in three months for $3.4 million & grossed over $160 million. Mel also recommended to producer, Michael Douglas that Will Sampson ( never acted) should play the tall Indian in the film. He was a painter & lot boy at Mel’s auto dealership. He had a fine career in motion pictures. Movie was mainly shot at the State Hospital where many actors lived during the shooting.
