I remember when we had Eskimo Pies - judged by the Smithsonian to be the original chocolate-covered ice cream bar -- and they were a dime. Klondike Bars came out a year or so after Eskimo Pies, but I hadn't heard of them until much later in life.

The Klondike name was an obvious attempt to steal some thunder from Eskimo Pie. The Eskimo Pie name was dropped a few years ago because it was determined that the name was derogatory to the Eskimo people.

Yes Eskimo pie brand name was retired by Dryer's ice cream circa 2021, and now resides with Aunt Jemima, Uncle Ben & Cream of Wheat in the old brand name rest home. Today the product is called Edy's Pie.
