Duane Eddy was never what you'd call a great guitarist, but he did have that unique twangy sound. I liked him best when paired with an orchestra on "Because They're Young."

The song was from the movie of the same name. The film starred American Bandstand's Dick Clark as a novice teacher who kept getting involved in his students' personal lives. Eddy had a cameo in the movie playing himself with his band The Rebels at a high school dance.
Duane is one of my enduring favorites and was the artist who got me started collecting 45's back in the day; I still have a ton of his stuff. I especially liked his bluesy takes which were often on the b-sides.
Also the work he did at RCA with the likes of the Blossoms providing his Rebelettes backup chorus was pure gold.
And to the point, his broad and lasting influence will tell you that he most certainly was a great guitarist.

That tells us why your connection to music was as a record collector and not a performer.
