Shouldn't the railroad own it?

Most railroads transport freight and would have no interest in a passenger station. Amtrak is the only railroad passenger service at Union Station that I know of.
Amtrak lost $757 million in 2023, which amounts to about $27 per passenger, and rely on federal and state $ to continue to operate.

Sounds like someone should buy the place and turn it into an upscale Pearl District shopping destination or restaurant scene. All it takes is money.
Maybe Elon might be interested?

I hope city of Portland residents rise enmass and can prevent this from being torn down. Can't it be protected under various historical preservation programs we have 9assuming an agency would take it over)? This would be an outrageous historical loss.
